The challenge
The cooperative owned tractors but hired implements by the season, which made timing unpredictable in a short sowing window. Buying at random risked implements that were too light for the soil or too heavy for the smaller tractors.
The solution
We mapped the tractor fleet against the rotation and specified two implement sets: a heavy offset disc harrow and reversible plough set for the larger tractors, and rotary tillers and seed drills for the mid-range units. Consumables were standardised so a single spares kit covers the whole fleet.
Results
- Sowing window met in full for the first time in three seasons
- Implement hire cost removed from the operating budget
- One standard wear-part set now covers all implements
- Two field training sessions delivered on setup and adjustment
